Sustainably Grown

Duvall Herb Farm is deliberately small. Our five-acre plot keeps us connected with what we value most: focusing on the needs of our plants. Implementing farming practices that yield healthy, beautiful crops in a way that is regenerative, and good for our land.

Our Story

I’m Lindsay Warshaw, Farmer & Owner

Born and raised in New York City, it wasn’t until I moved to Seattle after college in 2003 that I fell in love with farming. First, it was through people. Every Sunday, I’d talk for hours with farmers at the market. For the first time in my life, I really thought about where my food came from. I felt connected to our land, my food, and my health in a way I’d never experienced before. I began to see the common thread that runs through how we grow food, what we consume, how we feel physically.

Shortly thereafter, I had my first job with my hands in the dirt, working at the Herb Pharm in Southern Oregon. Immediately, I fell in love with work and lifestyle of farming, and never looked back. The following years found me working on a vegetable farm in Pt. Reyes, California, and then running my own produce farm in the foothills of the Sierras, selling to top restaurants in the Bay area – and eventually, to grad school at the University of Montana.

Through my Master’s in Environmental Studies, concentrating in Sustainable Food & Farming, I studied how farming can be good for the land – can restore rather than degrade. After grad school, I implemented this new knowledge in a variety of ways, through my work on a goat dairy farm, a sheep farm (where I still assist!), and at Bastyr University, the renowned school of naturopathic medicine.

At Bastyr, I managed the one-acre medicinal herb garden, harvested for their herb lab, taught and supervised student volunteers in the garden, and grew thousands of baby herbs for the annual spring plant sale. During this time, I also began to plant the seeds for making my own dream a reality: owning and running an herb farm.

I discovered the right land & founded Duvall Herb Farm in 2019.

I love the work of tending to plants and animals, and my curiosity about all things farming is never-ending. Now I get to see all of it come to life on my farm: plants, animals, land, and our connection to all of it. What we eat, breathe, consume – it makes a difference to our planet and our bodies.

Through this lens, I see the land as my partner. It needs good stewardship, just like our physical beings do.

Together with my farm, I produce herbs and plants that are good for you AND the land.

Our Intention

Our First Year & Growing Season

We’re learning about our land and exploring the best systems to put in place. As we complete our organic certification process, we’re starting with farming one acre of land as we also build and convert infrastructure – setting up permanent beds, a drying shed, temperature-controlled storage spaces. One day we look forward to farming on all five acres of our land, offering workshops and providing a space for education, and considering additional conservation endeavors like cultivating herbs that are designated Species at Risk. For our first year and growing season, our intention is to simply learn, experiment, and learn some more – evolving as we go to do what’s right for our land, our business, and values.
